Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is the examination conducted for admission to Post Graduate Courses in Engineering and other Government Scholarships/Assistantships in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science as well as for recruitment in all major PSUs. Research organizations like BARC and ISRO also recruit through GATE. They also conduct their own written examinations for non- GATE candidates. Hence the number of applicants for GATE is huge. Last year around 9 lakh candidates applied for GATE, of which about 16% qualified the same. The qualification marks vary as per the discipline and are calculated relative to the top marks secured in that discipline for that year.
